Question Trouble with making textures
I'm currently working on my first map and I've been trying to add my own textures. Last I looked I did not see a tutorial on how to actually create and utilize textures. I looked here: http://www.snarkpit.net/editing.php...game=HL2&id=121.
I followed the directions carefully but everytime I try to run the VTEX.exe file using my texture MS-DOS gives me a message like this:
input file: c:/PROGRA~1/Valve/Steam/STEAMA~1/SAMURA~1/SOURCE~2/cstrike/CUSTOM~1/
CONTRO~1
Problem figuring out outputdir for c:/PROGRA~1/Valve/Steam/STEAMA~1/SAMURA~1/SOU
RCE~2/cstrike/CUSTOM~1/CONTRO~1
Hit a key to continue

Hitting a key does nothing besides close the window.
I think it has to do with the fact that that tutorial was not only made for HL2 but is also outdated.
I then tried to use my own .WAD files hoping that would work. I created the texture using CS2, saved it as a .tga, and, using Half-Life Tag Converter v1.04, turned it into a .wad file. it changed into a .wad file but: 1) I have no idea where to place it and 2) I have no .vtf or .vmt files of my texture.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Magedo.
PS: Sorry if my English or my spelling is not so great.
EDIT: I'm making these for Source not 1.6.

Why not just use Wally to make your own textures? Just do as this:
• Download Wally and install it.
• Open up any wad-file in wally.
• Delete every images in the wad-file (Do not save!).
• Draw the image that you want into the texture-window in Wally.
• Press Ctrl + A and save your wad-file in the cstrike folder (CS 1.6/cstrike).
• Now open hammer and add your own wad-file into the textures (Tools > Opions... > Textures).
• Now you're done!

Thanks. I'll try that when i get back from school. But where exactly do I have to place the WAD file?

I figured out a different way! If you're using CS:Source (which is what I was doing, I put it in my first post!), just add it to your sprays in the options in CS:S. It'll automatically add the spray to your texture bin! I don't know if this will allow other people to see the textures if they dl the map. Will it?
Thanks,
Magedo.
