okey dokey so it seems yet again that steam has to complicate things anyway this is my problem. ive been downloading skin after skin after skin and i cant get any of them to work, ive even downloaded ones that say they are guarenteed to work with 1.6 but evry time i get an error message saying

"Disconnected

You have been disconnected from the server.
Reason: Bad file Server is enforcing file consistency for models/(every p_*file*.mdl)"

i have the the skins in C:/Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/email/counter-strike/cstrike/models and i just cant seem to understand why it wont work. first i thought maybe it was just a bad skin or something but not 20-30 times in a row someone please help!

you get that message because the skin is:

1) too big
2) not compatible with steam.

Excuse me but, I have a dedicated server and some people that use their own custom models can not join my server because my server does this to them:

"Bad file Server is enforcing file consistency for models"

... and then it kicks them when they join. They can play on other servers, which I think is telling me there's some kind of setting or something. Can somebody please help me with that?

The p*mdl error was common before steam. The "P" model is the playermodel that you would view other players using. Your server enforces consistency to prevent people from using "spiked" models which would be ridiculously large guns so you can see people thru walls etc.

The fix is VERY simple, do not install the "P" mdl, which means you will see other people running with the default CS weapon model sadly, but in your hand you will have the custom gun. Only other solution is to make sure your custom weapons meet the exact same dimensions and possibly even file size as the original weapons on the "p" mdl.

I think I solved the problem "server is enforcing file consistency ..models"
at least it worked for me, try this :

go to xxxxx/models/player then you have : artic, gign, guerilla etc
just open EVERY folder and do the following for EVERY *.mdl file

- right clik on each *.mdl files
- choose PROPERTIES
- ACTIVATE "READ ONLY" option
- Save it

...that's it , I think that the *.mdl files are simply "modified" by a bug during
the mapchange (not sure) but it really works for me, before doing this I had to RETRY after every mapchange, on any CS server... it seems so simple but now my problem is solved

GoodLuck
